We are a team of 25 staff at Happy Elements that develops and operates Ensemble Stars! Two of us produce all of the Live2D assets internally from the very beginning without outsourcing the work.
These two are also in charge of art direction as well as illustrating backgrounds.
From the first project proposal, we considered using Live2D for Ensemble Stars! Back then, we had already seen some apps from other companies that made use of Live2D, and we had a very positive impression of the technology. It was a natural fit for our strength, 2D illustration. Additionally, the fact that Live2D Inc. was early for supporting Unity was the determining factor as we were in a company-wide transition of our development platform for Unity.
By using Live2D, we strive to get costumes of the characters to stay as true to the original illustrations as possible in the app. Live2D adds technical complications such as a number of polygons and parts. Despite such complications, we managed to add a wide variety of costumes by adopting our modeling method to each of the costumes rather than putting restrictions on illustration based on a fixed modeling method.
We hope that Live2D goes into the hands of more creators and they inspire each other in the community, and consequently, Live2D as an art form will flourish in the areas of apps and animation.
